May Pixel Scrapper Blog Train ... "Destinations"

I've lived in several different places across the country, from some of the largest cities to towns on the edge of nowhere.  And I have visited a lot of different places and countries.  Loved them all.  But, for my destination I have chosen where I now call "home" -- New Glarus Wisconsin.  The first time I visited this area looking for a new house several years ago, I fell in love with it.  So, let me give you a short tour before moving onto what you really came here for!

Swiss tradition is alive and well here, and the town has over 2 million visitors each year.  This very large church is the first building you see when you come over the last hill into town on the highway and the chimes that play at noon each day are beautiful.

We have organizations and businesses just like every other town, but in New Glarus, it all has a Swiss flair from architecture to bakery goods.  (Most towns have a bakery.  We have a Backerei with the most delicious "Orange Blossoms".

These Swiss Cows are kept by various businesses throughout town.  Each cow is painted to exemplify the goods inside -- restaurants, flower shops, parks, etc.  The cow by the clinic has a cast on his leg, stethoscope around his neck and band-aids.  In keeping with the theme of our Swiss Village, the brewing company built a Swiss Village brewery and has brought numerous job opportunities to the community.

And now for some FREEBIES!

Thank you so much for the lovely kit and the splendid guided tour.
New Glarus is such a quaint town, very European, which for an expat like me is always heart-warming.

Your cow bell brought back memories of Oahu, of all places. A bell (like the one in your kit) was donated by a Swiss native to the Waikiki Swim Club to use as a prize for predicting ones time for swimming a course. The bell (quite heavy on a thick leather belt) was my trophy for a year - after which time, it was passed on to the next winner. With your description of the cow's part in Swiss culture, I can see what an honor it was to be entrusted with it. Thanks for your beautiful kit.

Thank you for your Blog train part dedicated to Switzerland (I love it). Switzerland, is the place I live.
I do not live in Glarus, but near Zurich.
It was very special to read about this New Glarus Village :-)
I think, people in your town are more Swiss, than we are in Switzerland, haha.
The next time, on August 1, it's our national day, I will scrap my pages with your kit, promised.

Thank you so much for your contribution. I was so surprised to see New Glarus as one of the destinations. I am from Wisconsin myself. I live in Menomonie, but my fathers side of the family is from Mt.Horeb. We have visited New Glarus for shopping and eating out many times. I love the little village.

Oh my goodness!! I grew up in SE Wisconsin, near Lake Geneva, and I remember an elementary school field trip to New Glarus. When I was in Junior High, we took a driving trip through there because my parents were considering a move to that area. I justlove this kit, and know I will be using it to scrap (probably hybrid) some of my childhood photos that are still in a box waiting to see the light of day.
Thanks so much for a lovely freebie!

Thank you so much Diane! This kit brought back many memories! My dad was stationed in Germany (in the late 1950's)and while there we visited Switzerland many times as it had become one of our favorite destinations for camping and just to enjoy the atmosphere. We lived in Wisconsin also (Tomah), actually twice! I'm so glad you decided to make your kit honoring your town! I love it! Vicki

I loved reading about your beautiful little town. I grew up in Wisconsin (in the tiny village of Viola- between Viroqua and Richland Center), but I never heard of New Glarus until I saw your adorable kit. I HAVE been to Switzerland, though, and I still think it's the most beautiful place I've ever been. Thank you so much for your darling kit, and I hope to visit your little town when I am in Wisconsin again! :)

Are the lace factory and the fabric store still there? I made my best friends' wedding dress from gorgeous embroidered satin and lace we got in New Glarus. I spent hours and hours there many times!
